Pantone announced their ‘Colour of the Year’ in December. Unlike previous years where we saw tones that might be considered relatively artificial for hairdressing, such as Magenta, Violet and last year’s Peach Fuzz – this year hairdressing has been given a gift. The Pantone Colour of the Year is Mocha Mousse. We gave a little jump for joy here in the IT&LY office as we looked closer into the shade and the opportunity for using our colours and products.
The colour is a perfect balance of warm and cool tones, without being extreme ash or orange warm. It has a slight pink undertone and will be flattering on most skin tones . For a good match, consider CV (7.16,8.16 and 9.16) or 9PC (9.81)and CF shades (7.72,8.72). The CH tones in Delyglow would also work well. Delyglow embodies the vibe with its 85% natural base and ability to create luxurious shine to the hair. Mocha Mousse taps into existing trends like “Hypernatural brunette” and all-over brunette shades like rich expressos that exude health and look polished (and expensive).

Impact on Hair Trends:
A rise in brunette shades: the prominence of Mocha Mousse is expected to boost the popularity of brunette tones, with clients seeking rich, dimensional browns that exude understated elegance.
More versatility across styles: Mocha Mousse’s balanced warmth and neutrality make it suitable for various applications, including:
All-over colour: providing a velvety, natural finish that complements diverse skin tones.
Highlights and balayage: incorporating Mocha Mousse can add depth and dimension, enhancing natural hair textures.
The selection of Mocha Mousse aligns with the year’s emphasis on comfort and simple pleasures, reflecting a societal shift towards nature-inspired aesthetics and creating “Me moments” – taking small opportunities to find joy in a chaotic world. Great news for hairdressing – this is something the industry provides clients with every day!
We Recommend:
Customised formulations: professionals are encouraged to create bespoke shades of Mocha Mousse, tailoring the colour to individual client preferences and natural tones.
Complementary techniques: combining Mocha Mousse with techniques like root smudging or glossing can enhance the hair’s natural shine and provide a seamless, low-maintenance grow-out.
