The IT&LY Classic Blue Colour Award, Winner Announced

In February we launched our first colour competition. We wanted it to be inclusive to all, whether you are salon based or freelance, easy to enter and themed in order to give everyone the same starting point and a fair chance to compare entries. Judging was based around the colour and interpretation of classic blue, execution, creativity, photograph and there were extra points for engaging your clients on social media. Those who showed their process and colour formula accrued a few more bonus points. However more than anything we just wanted to see the talent we know exists within the IT&LY stylist community shine through.

Every year Pantone the colour research agency decide on their colour of the year and for 2020 it was Classic Blue. According to Pantone Classic Blue is.

Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the choice of colour for 2020 contains reassuring qualities that highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into the new decade.

Pantone 2020

Of course at the start of 2020 we had no idea of what the year had in store for the world or our industry and that 2020 might be considered a blue year for a whole different reason! 2020 is still in a state of flux and confusion, the sentiment of classic blue is worth clinging to but the irony is not lost on us.

Winner

Naomi Jones of White and Jones our winner

The peoples choice on social media and judges concurred that Naomi Jones from White & Jones in Leeds with her Blossom creation was the winner. The look was created with our blue lagoon shade and used to make two shades of blue. Fun and flirty, with the full process sent to us in video form, which we will share our Instagram. Naomi Jones is building a reputation in Leeds for creating the most stunning melted and blended vivid looks. Naomi wins a trophy and also £400+vat to spend on IT&LY hair and beauty tools.

Naomi Jones Winning look using Blossom vivids

Naomi said about her finished look, “I wanted create something that had a fantasy vibe, where the colours were defined. I find Blossom really easy to work with as you can create several depths of colour from a single tube”. I’d say about 85% of my clients are vivid clients and are quite experimental. Blossom is fabulous as it lasts a long time and the colours fade true to tone. The mission of White & Jones is to create a salon with a chilled atmosphere that is also edgy and alternative. Each colour is as unique as the client”. Naomi is also a big fan of the Aquarely range, 100ml tubes mean the colour goes a long way, ideal for a small salon, where it’s important to get an economy of scale. “ I love Aquarely, especially the coppers, the depth of colour is just stunning”

Runner Up

Charlie Buck and Farren Webster of WWW.Comb Salon West London

Charlie Buck and Farren Webster from WWW.Comb salon, West London. Both just 18yrs of age at the time they entered as a duo and with maturity and foresight decided to channel the resurgence of the 90s inspired colour blocking as their trend. Which has now blown up to be all over the hair and beauty press. Both Charlie and Farren are working their way towards being graduate stylists. Using the amazing denim toner from the oh my blonde range they used it from the tube and also diluted with diamond to create the silver grey money piece at the front of the hair. The look was dependent on carefully lightening their model’s hair over several sessions and getting the canvas just right while keeping the condition. They used Iconic Blonde 9+ and of course Oh My Blonde Sealer at the backwash to keep the condition. Cutting through several layers of home colour, the hair looks shiny and vibrant. The beauty of IT&LY Hair Fashion denim toner is that it fades to silver and is a great alternative to a blue vivid with no blue staining.  Our judges liked the commercial nature of the look and the fact it would be replicable and a hit in most salons.

Charlie and Farren’s Runner Up entry using Oh My Blonde denim toner

Third place was awarded to Samantha Briscoe. Sam is a avid user of IT&LY Aquarely and Blossom and entered with two entries but this was our favourite and also had a high number of likes on facebook. We liked the use of blossom in panels, using both blossom blue lagoon and violet purple rain to create interest in the graduated bob. It’s a classic cut made quirky with the use of tones.  Sam’s inspiration was the night sky.

Once again a big thank you to everyone who took the time to enter. There is a fabulous array of blue looks and each one has interpreted the brief differently. Which is what IT&LY Hair Fashion is all about using our colour to create art.
